The Mysterious and Unexplained Holes in Pisco Valley, Peru

A mysterious site spans the landscape of Pisco Valley, Peru. On the same plateau where the famous Nazca Lines are found, thousands of holes have been carved into rock, creating a band that stretches further than a mile.

It is unknown who carved these holes, or why they were created, but it is clear that this vast creation must have been a painstaking job, requiring many hours of manpower.

The band of holes in Pisco Valley, Peru literally contains thousands of holes. Described as “man-sized,” these holes are approximately a meter wide, and one to two meters deep.

Some of the holes are quite shallow, giving the appearance that they had not yet been completed.

They were carved into a band, approximately 8-10 holes wide, and span a mile across a rugged mountain terrain. The number of holes is estimated to be around 6,900. Some of the holes are lined up with precision, while others appear more staggered.

It is estimated that it took decades to chip the stone away to reveal the band of holes, but it is unknown why this task was undertaken. Today’s inhabitants of the area do not know how the holes were created, why they were created, or who created them.

There have not been any artifacts uncovered to reveal any further information about the holes. Some believe that because the holes are “man-sized,” that they may be some sort of vertical grave, intended for burying the dead. However, this has not been substantiated by the recovery of any bones, artifacts, or other human remains to indicate a burial site.

Some archaeologists have theorized that the holes were dug to store grain, and other essentials. Considering the quantity of holes, and the depth of each hole, it is likely that any civilization would have been able to store a great volume of grain.

However, this theory has been criticized. Storage containers for grain could have been built with much more ease than the efforts required to carve the holes into the rock.

For that reason, it is unlikely that any inhabitant would take on the arduous task of carving the holes if there were a better way to accomplish their storage goals.

While it is unknown who created the holes, they are clearly a man-made construction. A few miles to the east of the band of holes, satellite imagery reveals what appear to be the remnants of an ancient civilization.

Although the area has not been identified as the location of a particular civilization, it closely resembles the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu. The mystery of who created the holes, and for what purpose, may be solved by further exploring what may be the remnants of a nearby ancient settlement.

Few other clues about the holes have been uncovered. The band of holes covers a mile of rocky mountain terrain, with a well-defined beginning and ending point. The ending point has brought forth some speculation due to its odd appearance. The band abruptly comes to an end near an area of land that has an unnaturally darkened color.

Some have said that the darkened area appears to resemble an area that has been destroyed by an explosion. There have been alternative theories that the holes were created by extraterrestrial beings – perhaps ancient aliens who visited Earth, and left behind markings to help show where they had been.

Clearly, an image as striking as the band of holes in Pisco Valley, Peru is bound to bring forth many questions as to who created the holes, and why.

We can be certain that such a labor-intensive creation must have held some sort of purpose for those creating it, although that purpose has left behind no indication of what it may have been.

Not a single hair or tooth or artifact has been found to date to shed light upon this mysterious band, leaving it to be labeled as one of the unsolved mysteries of the world.

The Bhagavad Gita, Oppenheimer and Nuclear Weapons

J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904 – 1967) was an American theoretical physicist, best known for his role as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project, the World War II effort to develop the first nuclear weapons, at the secret Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico. He is often remembered as “the father of the atomic bomb”.

After witnessing the first successful nuclear explosion at the Trinity test site in Los Alamos New Mexico (which took place on 16 July, 1945) Oppenheimer remarked later that it brought to his mind words from the Bhagavad Gita: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds” (chapter 11, verse 32).

Although Oppenheimer never converted to Hinduism nor did he ever refer to himself as a Hindu, Hindu philosophy did influence him greatly. He never prayed to Hindu deities nor went to a Mandir (Hindu temple).

He was never a Hindu in a devotional sense, but he did take up Sanskrit lessons so he could better understand the Gita in its native tongue. Oppenheimer, raised as a Jew, was deeply affected by Vedic philosophy.

His brother said that Oppenheimer found the Bhagavad Gita “very easy and quite marvelous… and was really taken by the charm and the general wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita”. Oppenheimer also claimed that “access to the Vedas is the greatest privilege this century may claim over all previous centuries”.

Remarkably he even once hinted at the possibility of weapons on par of the nuclear ones who was working on in previous eras, particularly those of the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

While he was giving a lecture at Rochester University, during the question and answer period a student asked a question to which Oppenheimer gave a strangely qualified answer:

Student: "Was the bomb exploded at Alamogordo during the Manhattan Project the first one to be detonated?"
Dr. Oppenheimer: “Well — yes. In modern times, of course."
Some people suggest that Oppenheimer was referring to the brahmastra weapon mentioned in the Mahabharata.

The appreciation didn’t stop there. So much so he always gave the book (Bhagavad Gita) as a present to his friends and kept a copy on the shelf closest to his desk.

At Franklin Roosevelt’s funeral he read a passage from the Gita chapter 17 verse 3 “Man is a creature whose substance is faith, what his faith is, he is”. In 1963, the Christian Magazine asked him to list his 10 most influential books, he chose the Bhagavad Gita as one of them.

However a question remains on how someone who said the devastation the bomb caused Japan represented the “inhumanity and evil of modern war” and believer in the Bhagavad-Gita (after all Gandhi also cited the Bhagavad Gita as instrumental in his peaceful non violent approach to life) managed to reconcile himself with the task of creating such a potentially world destroying instrument such as the atomic bomb and yet at the end of it and still believe it was the correct thing to do.

He admitted himself that he had blood on his hands and the people behind it had “known sin”. But he still was adamant that he had done the right thing.

He believed that the bomb would save more lives by stopping the carnage that was World War II in that the bomb would frighten other would be aggressors thereby, in theory, preventing many future conflicts.

"And even if thou were the greatest of sinners, with the help of the bark of wisdom thou shalt cross the sea of evil." (Gita 4:36)

Consider these verses from the ancient Mahabharata:

"a single projectile charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and flame As bright as the thousand suns Rose in all its splendour…

"a perpendicular explosion with its billowing smoke clouds… the cloud of smoke rising after its first explosion formed into expanding round circles like the opening of giant parasols…

"it was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death, which reduced to ashes The entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas. …The corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable.

“The hair and nails fell out; Pottery broke without apparent cause, And the birds turned white. After a few hours All foodstuffs were infected… to escape from this fire, the soldiers threw themselves in streams to wash themselves and their equipment."

“Dense arrows of flame, like a great shower, issued  forth, encompassing the enemy… A thick gloom swiftly settled upon the hosts. All points of the compass were lost in darkness.  Fierce wind began to blow upward, showering dust and gravel.
“Birds croaked madly… the very elements seemed disturbed. The earth  shook,  scorched  by the terrible violent heat of this weapon. Elephants burst into flame and ran to and fro in a frenzy… over a vast area, other animals crumpled to the ground and died. From all  points  of  the compass  the  arrows  of  flame rained continuously and fiercely." - The Mahabharata

In 1996 in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Italian mineralogist Vincenzo de Michele spotted an unusual yellow-green gem in the middle of one of Tutankhamun's necklaces.

The jewel was tested and found to be glass, but intriguingly it is older than the earliest Egyptian civilization. Geologists traced its origins to unexplained chunks of glass found scattered in the sand in a remote region of the Sahara Desert.

But the glass is itself a scientific enigma. How did it get to be there and who or what made it?

An Austrian astrochemist Christian Koeberl had established that the glass had been formed at a temperature so hot that there could be only one known cause: a meteorite impacting with Earth. And yet there were no signs of a suitable impact crater, even in satellite images.

Another explanation is that the desert glass has a terrestrial explanation - one that includes atomic war or high-tech weapon capable of melting sand.

The first atomic bomb detonation by the United States in New Mexico at the Trinity test site in 1945 created so much heat that it formed a crater of radioactive glass in the desert about 10 feet deep and over 1,000 feet in width.

This is the same type of glass that is found in India, Egypt, and many other locations.

There are Biblical references to nuclear warfare, such as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah:

“…(Abraham) looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah…and he beheld and saw a smoke rising from the earth, as the smoke of a furnace.” (Gen 18:27).

- “…and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 9:23

The Lost Continent of Kumari Kandam

Most people are familiar with the story of Atlantis, the legendary sunken city as described by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. To this day, opinion is still divided as to whether this story should be understood literally or taken merely as a morality tale. Further east in the subcontinent of India is a similar tale. This is the tale of the “lost continent” of Lemuria, frequently connected to the legend of Kumari Kandam by speakers of the Tamil language.
The term Lemuria has its origins in the latter part of the 19th century. The English geologist Philip Sclater was puzzled by the presence of lemur fossils in Madagascar and India but not in mainland Africa and the Middle East. Thus, in his 1864 article titled “The Mammals of Madagascar,” Sclater proposed that Madagascar and India were once part of a larger continent, and named this missing landmass “Lemuria.” Sclater’s theory was accepted by the scientific community of that period as the explanation of the way lemurs could have migrated from Madagascar to India or vice versa in ancient times. With the emergence of the modern concepts of continental drift and plate tectonics, however, Sclater’s proposition of a submerged continent was no longer tenable. Yet, the idea of a lost continent refused to die, and some still believe that Lemuria was an actual continent that existed in the past.
One such group is the Tamil nationalists. The term Kumari Kandam first appeared in the 15th century Kanda Puranam, the Tamil version of the Skanda Puranam (Hindu religious texts. Yet, stories about an ancient land submerged by the Indian Ocean have been recorded in many earlier Tamil literary works. According to the stories, there was a portion of land that was once ruled by the Pandiyan kings and was swallowed by the sea. When narratives about Lemuria arrived in colonial India, the country was going through a period when folklore was beginning to permeate historic knowledge as facts. As a result, Lemuria was quickly equated with Kumari Kandam.
The story of Kumari Kandam is not regarded as just a story, but seems to be laden with nationalistic sentiments. It has been claimed that the Pandiyan kings of Kumari Kandam were the rulers of the whole Indian continent, and that Tamil civilization is the oldest civilization in the world. When Kumari Kandam was submerged, its people spread across the world and founded various civilizations, hence the claim that the lost continent was also the cradle of human civilization.
So, how much truth is there in the story of Kumari Kandam? According to researchers at India’s National Institute of Oceanography, the sea level was lower by 100 meters (330 feet) about 14,500 years ago and by 60 meters (200 feet) about 10,000 years ago. Hence, it is entirely possible that there was once a land bridge connecting the island of Sri Lanka to mainland India. As the rate of global warming increased between 12,000 and 10,000 years ago, the rising sea levels resulted in periodic flooding. This would have submerged prehistoric settlements that were located around the low-lying coastal areas of India and Sri Lanka. Stories of these catastrophic events may have been transmitted orally from one generation to another and finally written down as the story of Kumari Kandam.
One piece of evidence used to support the existence of Kumari Kandam is Adam’s Bridge (also called Rama’s Bridge), a chain of limestone shoals made up of sand, silt, and small pebbles located in the Palk Strait extending 18 miles from mainland India to Sri Lanka.  This strip of land was once believed to be a natural formation, however, others argue that images taken by a NASA satellite depict this land formation to be a long broken bridge under the ocean’s surface.

The existence of a bridge in this location is also supported by another ancient legend. The Ramayana tells the tale of Sita, Rama’s wife, being held captive on the island of Lanka. Rama commissions a massive building project to construct a bridge to transport his army of Vanara (ape men) across the ocean to Lanka.
As with most so-called myths, it seems likely that there is at least some truth to the ancient Tamil legends of Kumari Kandam, but just how much, is yet to be determined.

Has this ghost hunter caught Wales' most bloodthirsty ghoul on camera?

Could this be the ghost of Wales’ bloodiest judge caught on camera?
A paranormal expert thinks so – after he took these snaps of what he claims is the spectre of Judge Jeffreys, the notorious aristocratic Welshman who hanged more than a thousand people in the 1600s.
Known as “The Hanging Judge”, Jeffreys – who was born in Wrexham – took charge of the Bloody Assizes in the 17th century.
The gruesome trials led to thousands of suspected treasoners being burned alive at the stake, hanged and beheaded.
Now ghost hunter Iain Alderton claims he has a picture that shows a ghoulish figure in an archaic powdered wig – and it is staring right at the camera.
The snaps were taken at the Ilchester Arms in London, which is understood to have been one of Judge Jeffreys’ favourite watering holes.
Mr Alderton, the founder of No Fear Paranormal investigators, said: “At the time I didn’t see anything. It wasn’t until I went through the photos later that what appeared to be Judge Jeffreys’ ghost was looking straight at me.
“First of all he seems to have his back to me, but then I took another photo and he’d turned to look straight at me through the camera.
“You can make out in the picture a powdered wig, like the sort of things they would wear during his era while he was a judge.
“We went to check out the place at night, because the owner had said they’d been hearing all kinds of strange noises in and around the pub.”
