These Manipulated Photos Show Us What The End Of The World Might Look Like
An iceberg glides silently past alarmed beachgoers on a sunny day. A massive swarm of birds rains down on an intersection in Milton, Pennsylvania. From a cable car in the Alps, you can see that the snow has all melted. Is this the latest terrifying news in the steady march of climate change? Is it a trailer for the latest summer disaster movie?
No. It's the digital photo manipulations of Russian designer and digital artist Evgeny Kazantsev. Kazantsev's series, Cataclysm Happens, was made for Gefest Insurance Company through the Burjui Design Bureau and Bang! Bang! design agencies. In the series, the artist creates depictions of large-scale natural disasters that show us what at first appear to be worst-case scenarios, but are actually completely possible situations.
Not only are these highly unusual occurrences possible, but some of them have actually happened, including sandstorms in Barcelona and the canals of Venice running dry. The real-life instances weren't quite as dramatic as Kazantsev depicts, but the message comes through: anything can happen.
Created for an insurance company, the images are at once cheekily hyperbolic and eerily ominous, warning people that the unexpected really can happen — and to be prepared for anything.

They might be fantastical scenarios right out of a movie, but they carry a worrisome undercurrent of the very real possibility of the unknown and unexpected. Is this a ghost? Hospital worker takes Snapchat picture of 'dead girl' outside children's ward
A hospital worker says he took this spooky picture of what appears to be a ghostly figure near a children's ward.
Andrew Milburn was texting his girlfriend at Leeds General Infirmary on Friday night just before starting his night shift.
The 21-year-old sent her a Snapchat image of a corridor on the hospital's Clarendon Wing - but says he had no idea the picture appeared to show this ghostly looking figure.
Andrew told "I sent her a picture as I walked to my office. Unbeknown at the time it appears that I captured a ghost figure in the corridors.
"I have since put this picture on Facebook, it has received thousands of likes and comments and has been shared as far as America.
"It has also been shared on to paranormal investigator groups, many of which believe the picture is real."
Andrew, who has recently returned to work after a career break, says the room the ghostly figure appears to be walking into is where the switchboard works.
He said a number of colleagues at the hospital have heard footsteps at the spot when no-one is there.
"There have been a few odd things," he said. "Now people are a bit scared, and apprehensive about going to the loo."
A number of people on Facebook claimed the image had been photoshopped, something Andrew denies.
"I didn't used to believe in ghosts," he told the Mirror. "I was always a skeptic."
Others claim the image may have been created using an app called Ghost Capture, which allows users to place a pre-existing ghost image into their own photographs.

More weird features have been spotted by NASA's Dawn spacecraft on Ceres, a
dwarf planet and the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
As Dawn first made its approach on Ceres earlier this year, it caught sight of large, bright and mysterious reflective spots in a crater on the big rock, which is also believed to contain quite a bit of water, ice and/or mud in its interior.
Now orbiting at a near altitude of just 2,700 miles, those big spots remain a mystery (the leading guess is still reflective patches of ice or salts), but Dawn is also beginning to pick out other bright spots and an odd pyramid-shaped peak that NASA estimates to be three miles tall, which would put it higher than any of the Rocky Mountains. The image with the peak was taken on June 6 and released Wednesday.

Plenty of observers have suggested -- with varying degrees of seriousness -- that the bright lights on Ceres could be evidence of current or past alien occupation of the dwarf planet. The discovery of a mountain-sized pyramid feature must have some cable channels looking into how much it would cost to get their own film crew to Ceres.
Perhaps the ancient Egyptians and ancient Indian astronauts had a celestial joint venture of sorts going on back in the day? Or perhaps Ceres is more geologically interesting both today and in the past than what meets the eye.
